Watts a Great Day for Locals 50 & 74

Watts a Great Day for Locals 50 & 74

The Southeastern Carpenters were happy to participate in the Watts Bar Community Day recently, an event the Tennessee Valley Authority sponsors for this and other facilities within their network.

The event featured an employee car show, live music, a children’s activity area and lots of great food. In the exhibit area, SECRC was proud to host an information booth along with different departments from throughout the plant. Also attending were industry reps who displayed the newest in safety gear valves, hydraulics, and rigging.

Our booth attracted several community members, many of whom had questions about the apprenticeship program. We handed-out our marketing and recruitment information and the business cards of Rodney Graham from Local 74 and Billy McCall from Local 50. Union carpenters from both Locals are providing daily work at the Watts Bar plant for the TVA.

Many thanks to carpenters from both Locals for staffing the booth: Alex Cummings, Alvin Yother and Clint Harrison. A special thanks to SECRC Council Rep Ernesto Arias for taking photos and creating a great summary video. Check it out: https://youtu.be/c2jZiDBr47k

Atlanta Leaders Represent Well at Build Expo

Atlanta Leaders Represent Well at Build Expo

Southeastern Carpenters were well represented at the 2019 National Build Expo, held this year in Atlanta in mid-July. Pictured here (left to right) is Atlanta Local 225 Council Rep Daniel Hicks, Local 225 member and Sisters in the Brotherhood Atlanta Coordinator Tammy Tatum, and Atlanta Training Coordinator Anthony Valdez.

“The Expo went great! We talked to at least 50 different contractors or companies, many of whom expressed interest in how we can help their manpower needs,” Hicks said.  “We also talked with educators and legislators about our willingness to get involved with the local schools to make sure every graduate has a chance at building their own career.”
