Charlotte Local 312 Partners with US DOL in Pre-Apprenticeship Project

Charlotte Local 312 is partnering with the U.S. Department of Labor and Acting Labor Secretary Julie Su for an innovative pre-apprenticeship program project.

The Secretary was in Charlotte recently for President Biden’s Investing in America initiative. Charlotte is designated as an area where several community groups with pre-apprenticeship programs were US DOL grant recipients. Secretary Su convened a meeting between those community groups and the Building Trades unions to announce a new partnership to begin the conversation of possible direct entry into US DOL certified, registered apprenticeship programs.

Secretary Su visited with Local 312’s Business Manager Efrain Villatoro, Southeastern Carpenters Training Program Director Mark Brown, and Council Political/Communications Director Brett A. Hulme to discuss the program and welcome Local 312 as a member of the partnership.
